KARACHI – A mild earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale jolted Qaidabad and nearby areas of Karachi on Sunday, causing brief panic among residents. The tremor was felt in various localities, prompting people to rush out of their homes.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad, the earthquake’s epicenter was located near the Malir area of Karachi at a shallow depth of eight kilometers. The tremor occurred suddenly and lasted only a few seconds.
Although the quake caused no damage, many residents reacted with fear. Several people were seen reciting verses from the Holy Quran while gathering in open spaces. Fortunately, there were no reports of casualties or damage to property.
Authorities confirmed that emergency services remained on standby, but no rescue operations were needed. The mild intensity of the earthquake limited its impact across the city, and life returned to normal within minutes.
This latest seismic activity serves as a reminder of Karachi’s vulnerability to minor earthquakes. Experts have advised residents to remain alert and familiarize themselves with basic safety protocols in case of future tremors.
While the situation remains calm, authorities continue to monitor seismic activity in the region. So far, no aftershocks have been reported.
